Pros

Stainless steel has good resistance to corrosion, high strength, and good mechanical properties. It also has good machinability.

Cons

Stainless steel can be very expensive and you need to use the highest techology machines and proper techinques in fabricating stainless steel as it is a difficult metal to handle. Lastly, the final finishing and polishing can have extra cost.

Applications

Stainless steel 304L (CNC) has good resistance to most media in the environment and those that can cause corrosion to materials. It also has good ability to be machined and has exceptional mechanical properties.

Stainless steel 316L (CNC) is just about the same with Stainless steel 304L, only it has higher resistance to any corrosive media and chemicals. It is a good material which is typically used in marine applications.

Stainless steel 17-4 (CNC) SAE grade 630 is a precipitation hardening alloy that has a combination of good alloy properties: high strength, good corrosion resistance. It also has good mechanical properties even at heightened temperatures of up to 316°C. It can also be hardened up to 44 HRC.

Due to its ductility, stainless steel can be rolled into sheets, wires, plates, bars, and tubings. It can be used as a material for cookware, cutlery, surgical instruments, major appliances, and the like. The list could go on and on.

Did you know?

Stainless steel is very ductile that it can be drawn out into very thin wires and can still be tough. Some stainless steel companies manufacture stainless steel mesh that is very fine and very pliable that it can be worn.

It is also believed by some researchers that stainless steel has a unique property that can bind to sulfur in various substances. This is the reason why stainless steel ""soap"" was made. It is basically stainless steel shaped to look like a bar of soap. This soap cannot kill germs but it can surely help in eliminating the smell of garlic, onion, or fish from your hands."
